Sabine Kühlich & Laia Genc

S(W)INGING BRUBECK

A duo of it´s own class - internationally tested from Germany to Brazil and Africa. Sabine Kühlich and Laia Genc present the songs of the famous Dave Brubeck Quartet adapted to their setting with voice, saxophone and piano.

The most famous composition by the saxophonist Paul Desmond,
"Take Five" is written in a 5/4 bar. Brubeck's "Blue Rondo a la Turk" in 9/8 , "Unsquare Dance" in 7/4 - how would you clap along? With Sabine Kühlich and Laia Genc you don´t need to worry. Pieces like the beautiful jazz waltz "In her own sweet way" and "Emily" again make you forget everything and the incomparable composer Dave Brubeck appears in a romantic light.
Laia Genc and Sabine Kühlich are coming in appearance as composers in the footsteps of Dave Brubeck's go. Kühlich´s "The Big Wing Wong" certainly has influences from Brubeck's " Koto Song". Laia Genc´s compositions endeavor even more modern paths of jazz music. Brubeck, originally born in Texas, was shaped by the musical cultures of different countries; Kühlich and Genc make use of Brazilian, Cuban and European musical tradition and mix nicely with the "Great American Songbook" in European tradition: simply "S(W)Inging BRUBECK"
